Echezona Anazodo, the Nnewi-North Local Government chairman in Anambra, says he has empowered over 200 youths in various skills and 900 farmers within six months in office.

Mr Anazodo disclosed this in Nnewi Sunday while briefing journalists on his scorecard of six months in office.

The council boss said that besides the skill empowerment, the council purchased the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) forms for others.

Mr Anazodo said that within the period under review, over 400 farmers in the area have benefited from farm inputs such as improved cassava stems and maize seedlings to increase their production.

He also said over 500 farmers in the area have been assisted with organic fertiliser to boost production.

On infrastructure, Mr Anazodo said the council had constructed a bridge, drainage, and culverts to facilitate movement and also built market shops for vulnerable people.

The chairman applauded the developmental strides of the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and endorsed him for a second term bid.

“I can tell you that just six months into my administration as the mayor of Nnewi-North LGA, we are witnessing mass infrastructure development from the state and the local government.

“Our governor has made it possible for us to smile because our roads here and other parts of the state are being dualised with drainage facilities.

“Mr Governor is also facilitating zero potholes on the roads in Nnewi North, so kudos to him,” he said.

Mr Anazodo commended the state government for inaugurating a security outfit, “Operation Udogachi/Agunechemba to tackle security challenges such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and insurgency, among others, in the state.”

He also thanked the governor for ensuring that the area was well represented in his cabinet, especially having the slot of a commissioner.

“Therefore, we are promising Mr Governor that we will support him come the November 8 governorship election in Anambra state,” the council chair added.
