No fewer than 25,000 undocumented migrants have arrived in the United Kingdom via the English Channel since the beginning of 2024.

The UK government disclosed this, citing Home Office data.

It said 1,519 migrants crossed the channel from September 16 to September 22.

According to the government, 25,052 undocumented migrants arrived in the UK from January 2024 to September 2024.

In September, more than 800 migrants arrived in one day, setting a record for daily arrivals since the Labour Party came to power in July.

The highest number of daily crossings, 900, was recorded on June 18, according to the data.

Undocumented migrants often seek any opportunity to enter the UK and apply for refugee status, which provides access to financial support and social programmes.

UK authorities spend several million pounds per day on accommodation for refugees in hotels.
