2024 Budget: Surveyor-general demands strict adherence to procurement process

Abudul-Ganiyu Adebomehin, the surveyor-general of the federation, has urged the agency staff to ensure strict adherence to the procurement process in executing the 2024 expenditure.
Mr Adebomehin said this on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open a sensitisation workshop on the procurement process for heads of departments and senior directors.
The surveyor-general reminded the participants of the importance of the procurement process in the expenditure of public funds.
”This procurement process must not be taken for granted, especially by government officials, because it is central to the spending of government funds,” he said.
He said the process was too technical, hence the need to enlighten officials to understand better and apply the procurement process.
Ajayi Ambibola, head of procurement of the agency, cautioned participants on the need to ensure early preparation of the bill of quantities before its presentation.
According to her, that should be a priority before a budget is prepared and submitted for scrutiny by the National Assembly.
Ms Abimbola urged the participants to always prepare and equip themselves with the knowledge of any project they want to undertake.
”Other items that you need to consider while preparing your bill of quantity for the procurement process is the effect of inflation. Contract profit margin, taxes, administrative fees, among others,” she said.
The office of the OSGoF had earmarked N2.4 billion to be expended on critical projects in its 2024 budget. It was against this background that the office had taken the responsibility to refresh the knowledge of its officers for a better understanding of major procurement processes and procedures.
