2023 Ballon d’Or Award: Oshoala nominated for Socrates Award

Barcelona Femini and Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala slug it out with Real Madrid duo Antonio Rüdiger and Vinícius Júnior in a five-person shortlist for the Socrates Award category at the 2023 Ballon d’Or Award.
This development was announced by the award organisers France Football through its official Twitter handle on July 7, which also nominated other categories, including the Best Men’s and Best Women’s footballers.
The Socrates Award category is named after Brazilian football legend Socrates. The award recognises outstanding solidarity actions carried out by football champions across the world.
Oshoala has been at the centre of women’s football development in Nigeria and this has driven her passion to establish to help young girls actualise their talents, which subsequently earned her a nomination in the category.
In October, the 28-year-old will seek to pip Vinicius Jnr (Brazil/Real Madrid), Antonio Rudiger (Germany/Real Madrid), Marcus Rashford (England/Manchester United), and Alex Morgan (USA/San Diego Wave) to the prestigious honour.
