12,000 people enrolled in Akwa Ibom health insurance scheme: Commissioner

Augustine Umoh, the Commissioner for Health in Akwa Ibom, says no fewer than 12,000 people have enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme.
Mr Umoh, in an interview in Uyo on Friday, said the insurance scheme, christened AriseCare, would boost public access to healthcare.
The commissioner further said the health insurance scheme would reduce the burden of healthcare payments on families.
“The scheme, tagged AriseCare, is progressing well. Registration is ongoing, and the provision of services will commence soon.
“This scheme is one good thing that has happened to residents of the state. A baby has already been delivered under its cover.
“The cost of delivery, laboratory tests, and other things were taken care of by AriseCare,” the commissioner said.
Mr Umoh said more residents were already keying into the scheme to access its benefits.
”I urge more residents of the state to embrace the AriseCare scheme in the interest of their health and that of their family members,” he said.
