Zverev disqualified from Acapulco tennis event for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’

Germany’s Alexander Zverev has been disqualified from the singles event at the ATP tournament in Acapulco after a tantrum following defeat in the doubles.
The Olympic champion hit his racket several times against the umpire’s chair.
He did this while the umpire still sat on the chair after a 2-6 6-4 6-10 loss with Brazilian doubles partner Marcelo Melo against Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool and Finland’s Harri Heliovaara.
Zverev had earlier been upset about a decision made by the match referee.
The men’s Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour reacted immediately and excluded the 24-year-old from the rest of the tournament for his “unsportsmanlike conduct”.
Zverev won the title in Mexico last year.
He had previously won his first-round singles match against American Jenson Brooksby with the match not ending until 4:55 a.m – the latest ever finish on the ATP Tour.
Zverev was due to play Peter Gojowczyk in the round of 16 but his 32-year-old fellow German has now reached the quarter-finals with a walkover.
