Zamfara now calm despite politicians’ plots to sabotage peace: Commissioners

The Zamfara government says peace is gradually returning to the state despite “unpatriotic, conflict entrepreneurs” activities.
Information commissioner Ibrahim Dosara and his security and home affairs counterpart Mamman Tsafe said this on Sunday at a joint press briefing on the state of affairs in Zamfara.
The commissioners said that politicians, out of selfish interests, were responsible for insecurity ravaging the state.
“Unknown to many Nigerians, bandits apart, there are some unpatriotic, conflict entrepreneurs politicians hell-bent to sabotage the peace process out of their selfish desire.
“It may interest you to also note that there is relative peace in almost all the northern parts of the state, with some few skirmishes here and there,” the commissioners said.
While bolstering their claims, the commissioners said the state government recently hosted a mammoth crowd in Gusau without a single act of banditry.
“Interestingly, not a single visitor was troubled either on his way coming or going back to their destinations,” they said.
As part of the measures to enhance security, they said the government had recruited 4,200 Community Protection Guards (CPG), comprising of veterans, volunteer able-bodied men and other patriotic citizens.
The commissioners said the CPG would be supporting the state security operatives to confront the bandits in their enclaves, to curtail their menace.
