Unknown gunmen kill security operatives in Bayelsa

Unknown gunmen have killed a police officer and an operative of the NSCDC in Bayelsa, says the police command in Bayelsa.
The police revealed that the attack took place at Okarki Junction, Yenagoa.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, SP Asinmi Butwait.
“On September 5, Operatives of Operation Doo Akpor, at Okarki Junction came under heavy fire by gunmen. The gallant operatives engaged the hoodlums in a shootout and repelled them from attacking the nipping point,’’ said the police statement.
Mr Butwait further stated that “unfortunately, a police sergeant and an Operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, sustained fatal gunshot wounds, which led to their death.”
In a separate incident, gunmen stormed the residence of an individual, Gbalipre Turner, and abducted him on September 5, at Samphino Road, Yenagoa.
The police spokesman added that policemen responded swiftly and pursued the kidnappers to Onuebum waterfront, where the kidnappers abandoned the vehicle used to kidnap him.
The statement said the kidnappers fled the scene in a speedboat.
The statement disclosed that the police commissioner in Bayelsa Echeng Echeng had ordered a manhunt for the kidnappers.
The commissioner further appealed to residents to volunteer useful information that would assist the police in its investigation.
