U.S. diaper company to expand Nigerian operations with $100 million investment

United States diaper company Kimberly-Clark is set to further expand its Nigerian operation with a manufacturing facility valued at $100 million.
Headquartered in Texas, the American brand which produces personal hygiene and medical products, will set up a diaper manufacturing facility in Ikorodu, Lagos, according to the U.S. Consulate.
The company started its operations in Nigeria in 2012, introducing the Huggies diapers in 2015 and four years later the Kotex sanitary pads in 2019.
The Ikorodu facility will produce diapers under the Huggies brand name, with the primary goal of creating quality Nigerian-made products for mothers and babies.
The facility is expected to create over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs with the potential to scale over the next 3 to 5 years.
In an event announcing the expansion, U.S. consul general, Claire Pierangelo, noted that Nigeria is a critical market for American companies and improving the investment climate would result in more milestones for both countries.
She said the U.S. government will continue to work with the Nigerian government to foster economic growth in the country.
“U.S. Mission to Nigeria continues to work with our counterparts in the Nigerian government to promote an environment that is inviting to U.S. businesses,” Ms Pierangelo said.
“Through this model of cooperation, we will realize mutually beneficial outcomes – increasing investment, capacities for job creation, and partnerships while improving the lives of workers and consumers,” she added.
She said the new facility showcases U.S. commitment to deepen its trade and investment ties with Nigeria.
