The police command in Oyo State has arrested three suspects for the alleged gruesome murder and robbery of a family at Oloba village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

A statement on Tuesday by Ayanlade Olayinka, the state police spokesman, said the arrest followed credible intelligence the command received on Friday at about 5:00 p.m.

He stated that the incident occurred on September 22, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. when the attackers invaded the victims’ house.

“Acting promptly on the information, detectives commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible,” he said.

Mr Olayinka stated that preliminary investigations revealed that three suspects, Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all from Oloba village, Lagelu LGA, invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children.

“The suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, which they used in carrying out the attack.

“During the invasion, the suspects robbed the family of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine,” he said.

He explained that during the process, Mr Akinbami shot the husband, while other suspects inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.

“The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed of in the same river,” Mr Olayinka noted.

According to him, the police visited the scene where photographs were taken, and exhibits were recovered.

The recovered items include the Boxer motorcycle belonging to the family, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club used during the attack.

He stressed that the suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.

Mr Olayinka added that the suspects were subjected to interrogation during which the three confessed to their involvement in the crime.

“The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river,” he said.

He added that the suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
