Taiwan’s independence, reliance on U.S. doomed: China

A Chinese mainland spokesperson says the doom of “Taiwan independence” is an irreversible historical trend.
Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said this at a news conference.
He explained that Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority was creating an illusion of the reliability of the United States regarding the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
“In fact, the people in Taiwan were aware that what really concerned the U.S. were its own needs and interests,” Mr Zhu noted.
According to him, the DPP authority’s attempted to collude with foreign forces in “seeking independence by force is bound to fail.”
Mr Zhu further claimed that the Taiwan question fell within China’s internal affairs and “does not brook any external interference, irresponsible remarks or anything is done by any country to undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
