Scores trapped in Russia coal mine blast
At least one miner has reportedly died and more than 70 trapped underground after a major blast occured at a depth of 250 metres – 850ft in the Listvyazhnaya coal mine region of Russia
However, rescue mission is underway in Siberia to save dozens of missing trapped coal miners after the blast.
A number of the coal miners were suffering from smoke poisoning when they were brought to the surface, authorities had confirmed.
Russian media Interfax news agency quoted a mine official saying 75 miners’ whereabouts were unaccounted for.
Regional Governor Sergei Tsivilev said one person had died and 44 others were injured.
The injured coal miners have been rushed to hospital following their rescue.
Two of the 43 injured were said to be in a serious condition after inhaling poisonous smoke from the blast, according to the Regional Governor’s Telegram channel.
“According to preliminary data, a number of workers suffered from smoke poisoning. The number of victims is being specified,” the regional branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee said in an earlier statement.
