NUGA partners JAMB to stop mercenaries from 2022 games
Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA) on Wednesday said it was working with the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) to check the use of mercenaries at the 2022 all-university games.
Joseph Awoyinfa, the Executive Secretary of NUGA 2022, told journalists in Lagos that strict measures had been put in place as there would be zero tolerance for cheating and the use of mercenaries during the games
“I can assure you that non-university undergraduates would not be allowed to participate in the games.
“To forestall this, accreditation of athletes presented by the various universities would be done on the JAMB portal,” Mr Awoyinfa said.
He added, “We are picking the passport of each athlete from the JAMB portal because we have paid money to access the JAMB platform to know those that are admitted to the universities.”
Mr Awoyinfa stressed that the use of the JAMB portal was the best way to determine genuine undergraduates since the games are strictly for university students.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) are hosting the games from March 16 to 26.
NUGA was founded in 1966 at the University of Ibadan, following the first edition of the West African University Games (WAUG) held in Ibadan in 1965.
