Nasarawa earmarks 30% of 2022 budget for education

The Nasarawa Government says it earmarked N31.9 billion of its N110 billion 2022 budget for the education sector, an amount representing 30 per cent.
Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Planning, Daniel Agyeno, disclosed this on Friday in Lafia during the 2022 budget breakdown.
Mr Agyeno explained that education was the topmost priority of the state government, the reason why it allocated N31.9 billion to the sector.
He stated that the budget was made up of N71.770 billion recurrent expenditure and N39.079 billion capital expenditure.
Mr Agyeno noted that the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule had adhered to international best practices in preparing the 2022 budget, including compliance with UNESCO’s recommendation in budgetary allocation to education.
He said the budget was expected to be funded from statutory revenue allocation of N34 billion, Value Added Tax (VAT) of N10 billion, and exchange gain of N1.93 billion.
Other sources of funding are internally generated revenue of N26.8 billion, aid and grants of N17.21 billion, and loans among others.
Mr Agyeno listed some of the expected projects to include completion of the bus terminal in Karu for N1.40 billion, purchase of tractors for N200 million, and the construction of water supply schemes for N637 million.
Others are the construction of modern markets at N800 million, construction of Gwanje Truck Park at N181 million, dualization of Shendam-Akurba road with a cost of N1 billion, among others.
The commissioner assured the people of the government’s determination to complete all ongoing projects, including the Lafia Airport and ongoing urban and rural roads.
The state governor had on December 29 signed the N110 billion 2022 budget into law.
