Lithuania’s parliament has unanimously called for a no-fly zone to be established over Ukraine in a vote held on Thursday.

The Seimas issued a statement demanding that the United Nations took measures immediately to establish a no-fly zone in order to prevent “mass civilian casualties.”

Furthermore, the statement called on other parliaments to work on setting up humanitarian corridors in Ukraine while the technical preparations for the no-fly zone were being prepared.

The Baltic EU and NATO member country was regarded as one of embattled Ukraine’s fiercest supporters internationally.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had demanded a no-fly zone over his country. This would hinder the Russian air force from bombing targets in Ukraine.

However, NATO had currently ruled out the establishment of such a no-fly-zone amid fears it could dramatically escalate the conflict.
