Lafenwa youths clash; properties destroyed, shops burnt in Ogun: Police

On Wednesday, the police command in Ogun said several people were injured and houses burnt during a clash between youths in Lafenwa Market, Abeokuta.
“Contrary to what people were insinuating, no life was lost. But people were injured; shops burnt and properties destroyed,’’ Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesperson in Ogun, said.
Mr Oyeyemi, in a statement, explained that the crisis which happened on Monday night was caused by a rumour alleging that someone had died in the conflict between the two groups.
“I think one of the men was injured, and some people went to town with the rumour that the injured man died. That is what led to the whole thing, and the issue escalated,” he said.
Mr Oyeyemi, however, disclosed that the police arrested several people in connection with the crisis.
“The situation is under control, and we have made some arrests. I don’t want to disclose the number of persons we had arrested, but we made some arrests,” he added. “We are still investigating the clash, and after a thorough investigation, whoever is found culpable will be charged to court.”
