Kano investigating death of man in open water

An investigation has begun into the death of a 25-year-old man, Anas Abdusalam, found dead on Sunday.
A police officer discovered his body in open water at Garin Bature Village, Bichi local government area, Kano.
Open water is a stretch of water not enclosed by land, ice, or other barriers.
A statement by the spokesman for the State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf, said, “We received a distress call from a police officer, Yahuza Muhammad, about the incident at about 2.05 p.m.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene to bring the corpse out of the water.”
The statement added, “Abdulsalam’s corpse was handed over to the representative of ward head of Gidan Bature Village, Sha’aibu Isma’il.”
Mr Yusuf noted that the cause of death was being investigated.
He advised parents to stop their wards from going to open water to swim.
