Supreme Court Justice Ngwuta is dead

Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court has died, a family friend told Peoples Gazette on Sunday.
Mr. Ngwuta, 69, was one of the judges whose residences were breached by the State Security Service in 2016. Despite claims by the SSS that Mr. Ngwuta was involved in alleged corruption, no evidence was found to substantiate the claim. The top jurist was never convicted after a long-drawn criminal proceeding.
A family source who confirmed Mr. Ngwuta’s passing to the Gazette said he was due for retirement in two weeks’ time. An official statement will be issued later, the source said.
The raid occurred during the brutal and inglorious days of Lawal Daura, who was tensioned friends with President Muhammadu Buhari despite being fired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for his anti-democratic tactics.
