Kaduna lawmaker shot dead by bandits

Rilwan Aminu Gadagau, a Kaduna House of Assembly member, has been shot dead by bandits.
Mr Gadagau’s death was announced in a Twitter post by Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator.
“A member of Kaduna state House of Assembly Hon Lirwan Aminu Gadagau from Giwa LG is reportedly shot and killed by Bandits on his way to Kaduna. A tragedy, a day. Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun,” Mr Sani tweeted.
Mr Gadagau, who is from Giwa local government area, was killed on his way to Kaduna when armed bandits attacked motorists along the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway on Tuesday.
The attack on the Kaduna-Zaria road came days after bandits opened fire on travellers along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, killing two passengers aboard a J5 bus.
On Monday night, the Guardian reported that over 30 passengers were abducted along the Kaduna-Zaria axis.
The spokesman for the police command in Kaduna, Mohammad Jalige, could not be reached immediately to confirm the killing.
Last month, Kaduna lawmakers raised concerns over the increasing bandits’ attacks, especially along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, describing it as an onslaught on national security.
