EFCC nabs Willie Obiano at international airport

Former Governor Willie Obiano has been arrested on suspicion of fraud at the Lagos airport.
The former governor has been under the radar of anti-graft officers for a while. The development came hours after Mr Obiano concluded his two terms of eight years as Anambra governor.
An official familiar with the matter said Mr Obiano was travelling to the United States when he was picked up for questioning. It was not immediately clear where he was driven to.
A spokesman for Mr Obiano, Don Adinuba, told Peoples Gazette he could not immediately comment on the development.
“I am trying to obtain all the facts before commenting,” he said by telephone.
Mr Obiano had been placed on a security watch list by the anti-graft office since 2021, amidst allegations of public funds mismanagement.
The now-former governor strongly denied the charges at the time, saying they were politically motivated because he had been diligent with allocation of state resources.
The Gazette had previously reported how Mr Obiano looted Anambra coffers based on state financial records, including N4 billion on the same day.
