APC convention to hold February 26

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced February 26 as the date for its national convention.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), at the National Progressive Women’s Conference in Abuja.
“Today, APC parades over 41 million registered members, asserting our position as Africa’s largest political party and of course, Nigeria’s leading political party. With these, we are confident of winning the 2023 general election with huge success,” Mr Buni said, “We look forward to having more women contesting in the forthcoming national convention of the party from February 26, 2022 and the general election.”
This announcement follows the assurances given by the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Monday. Peoples Gazette reported that the PGF stated that the party’s National Convention will be held in February.
Since 2020, the APC had been unable to hold its national convention and elect new leaders since its former leadership, led by Adams Oshiomhole, was sacked in 2020. The party has since been led by an interim management committee led by the Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni.
There has been pressure on the APC Buni-led CECPC to fix a specific date for the party’s national convention following Mr Buhari’s approval that the event is held in February.
Salihu Lukman, the PGF director-general, recently called on committee members to resign if they would not be able to conduct the party’s national convention in February.
This announcement of the convention date also comes a week after Bola Tinubu, the party’s national leader, and Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi had announced their intention to run for president in the 2023 elections.
