Jumoke Oyeleke, shot at Yoruba Nation rally, buried on Friday in Lagos

Jumoke Oyeleke, the 25-year-old lady killed when police officers opened fire on protesters at the ‘Yoruba Nation’ rally on July 3, was buried Friday, around 12:00 p.m., at the Atan Cemetery, in Yaba, Lagos state.
Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that she was hit by a stray bullet during the ‘Yoruba nation protest’ after the police officers began firing guns and tear gas canisters into the air in an attempt to disperse the agitators in Ojota.
Police spokesperson for the command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, denied responsibility for her death, claiming that police officers never fired a single bullet at the rally.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had ordered an investigation into the cause of her death.
In July, a candlelight procession in Ms Oyeleke’s honour was held, with her family members, friends and other sympathisers attending.
The investigation instituted by Mr Sanwo-Olu into her death is yet to be concluded.
