The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA) says it has inoculated 1.7 million children against polio in the 2022 First Round Immunisation exercise.

Its Executive Secretary, Kabiru Ibrahim, said this in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital.

Mr Ibrahim said the exercise was conducted simultaneously across the 27 local government areas of the state between January 1 and January 5.

He commended community and religious leaders as well as parents and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation during the exercise.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 118,772 children had been administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) during the five-day exercise in Birniwa and Kaugama LGAs.

Mr Fahad Muhammad, Information Officer in charge of the councils, said that 47,399 children had received the vaccines against the virus in Birniwa and 73,373 in Kaugama.

He quoted the council’s chairmen, Umar Baffa and Idris Mati, as commending parents for presenting their children for the immunisation.

They reiterated commitment towards enhancing quality healthcare service delivery in their respective areas.
