Herdsmen: Delta govt enlists SSS, police help to enforce grazing law

“We pray that the various communities would cooperate and allocate lands to cattle dealers to graze their cattle.”

• January 21, 2022

The police and other security agencies in Delta have assured the Delta Livestock Management Committee (DLMC) of support for the peaceful implementation of the livestock law to end the herders-farmers crisis.

The police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the State Security Service (SSS), made the pledged when the DLMC chairman, Julius Egbedi, led its members on a consultation visit to the various agencies on Thursday in Asaba.

The Delta command’s police commissioner Muhammed Ari stated, “We pray that the various communities would cooperate and allocate lands to cattle dealers to graze their cattle.”

Mr Ari added, “We need to support each other to succeed; the governor that I know is prepared, and I want to assure you that the project will work. I want to assure you that the support you need you will get from this office.”

SSS assistant director-general Ademola Adebiyi advised the government to own its ranching to promote healthy dairy and meat for public consumption, economic empowerment and job creation.

According to NSCDC commandant Akinsanya Iskilu, one of the core mandates of the civil defence is the agro-rangers.
