Gunmen attack police divisional headquarters in Abia, release inmates

Gunmen on Monday morning attacked Uzuakoli Divisional Police station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia state, freeing suspects in detention.
Citing a source, Punch reported that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday.
“Uzuakoli Divisional Police headquarters has been razed,” the news outlet reported. “The gunmen attacked it before torching it. They freed suspects but fortunately, no life was lost.”
Abia police spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comments on the incident.
The attack on the police office comes barely a week after police headquarters and a correctional facility were attacked in neighbouring Imo State with over 1,000 inmates released.
Imo jailbreak informed the convocation of a South-East security summit by governors of the five states which comprised the region. The leaders of the region arose from that meeting to announce the launching of a regional security outfit, Ebube Agu.
Speaking on increased insecurity in the South-East last week, Ebonyi governor David Umahi said bandits masquerading as IPOB are responsible for the attacks.
