Gunmen attack boat with 14 passengers in Bayelsa

Gunmen attacked a passenger boat in Bayelsa on New Year’s Eve.
The boat, carrying 14 passengers left Yenagoa en-route Twon-Brass in Brass Local Government Area of the state when the gunmen struck.
They made away with the 115-horsepower Yamaha outboard engine of the boat and dispossessed the passengers of their valuables.
The Bayelsa chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Ogoniba Ipigansi, said in Yenagoa on Sunday that the passengers were, however, left unhurt.
“The gunmen dumped the driver and the passengers in the bush before carting away the outboard engine,’’ he said, adding that a rescue team had been dispatched to the scene.
