Gombe Bulls cruise past Kano Pillars in basketball league

Only one team will represent Nigeria in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The male team of the Gombe Bulls defeated Kano Pillars 79-67 on Monday in the second semi-final match of the current Nigeria Basketball Premier men’s league final eight.

The match was played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Gombe Bulls defeated their opponents in the third quarter and drew in the final quarter of the game.

Gombe Bulls led 18-14 in the first quarter, 18-16 in the second quarter, 24-18in the third and 19-19 in the last quarter to make the final score 79-67.

Speaking after the match, the head coach of Gombe Bulls, Abdulrahman Mohammed, told journalists that his target is to play the final match and win.

“We played a very aggressive game. We didn’t make many mistakes. We turned over the ball two times and that showed the result.

“We are going back to the drawing board to strategise for our final match against Rivers Hoopers.

“I’m excited that my team will win the final match against Rivers Hoopers,” he stated.

In the other games played, Rivers Hoopers defeated Nigeria Custom 85-76 in the first semi-final match.

Rivers Hoopers will face Gombe Bulls in the final match while Nigeria Custom will play Kano Pillars in the third-place match.

The eight participating teams in the Super Eight Men’s Premier Basketball League are divided into Atlantic Conference and Savannah Conference.

The Atlantic Conference teams are Rivers Hoppers, Kwara Falcons, Lagos Islanders and Police Batons.

Savannah Conference teams are Kano Pillars, Gombe Bulls, Nigeria Customs and Benue Braves.

The winner of the League will represent Nigeria at the 2021 Basketball Africa League (BAL), scheduled to hold later in the year.

The league is organised by the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development due to the crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).

The competition which started on November 12 is expected to end on November 16.
