Funke Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto’ racks up N500 million at box office

Funke Akindele-Bello’s blockbuster comedy movie ‘Omo Ghetto’ (The Saga) has become the highest-grossing Nollywood film, the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) has announced.
The association said in a recent report that Mrs. Akindele-Bello’s latest film, released late 2020, was the first in Nollywood to cross N500 million in the Nigerian box office.
“Omo Ghetto has officially broken a four-year record by knocking off Kemi Adetiba’s 2016 Comedy movie: The Wedding Party,” CEAN said.
“The movie (The Wedding Party) had been Nollywood’s highest-grossing movie with N453,000,000, while in third place is ‘The Wedding Party 2′ with N433,197,377,” it stated.
CEAN’s report disclosed that ‘Omo Ghetto’ has maintained the number one spot for six weeks in a row, amassing a cum revenue of N501,449,050.
The movie, which is a sequel to 2010 trilogy ‘Omo Ghetto’, the story of Shalewa aka Lefty (Funke Akindele), was released on Christmas day 2020.
Mrs. Akindele-Bello, who produced and co-directed the film, played the dual role of Ayomide and Lefty.
The comic actress starred alongside Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello, Chioma Akpotha, Bimbo Thomas, Eniola Badmus, Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo amongst others.
