Driver gets one year jail term for cheating

A 40-year-old driver, Ali Abubakar, has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment by an Upper Area Court in Jos for breach of trust, cheating and mischief.
A panel of two Magistrates sentenced Mr Abubakar after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Adams Galadima and Ishaq Danjuma, gave Mr Abubakar an option to pay a fine of N10,000 each for breach of trust and cheating and another N15,000 for mischief.
They said that the judgement would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ijuptil Thawur, told the court that the case was reported on December 8, 2021, at the Nasarawa Gwong Police station by Auwal Sani, the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the convict was given a vehicle for commercial purposes but instead he converted it for his personal use.
Mr Thawur said that the offence is punishable under the provisions of sections 333, 313 and 297, of the Plateau Penal Code law.
