Court remands Lagosian for alleged murder of trader with bottles, knife

Udoka Umeofia, 38, who allegedly stabbed a trader to death with bottles and knife, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant appeared on a charge of murder, but his plea was not taken.
The Magistrate, W. A. Salami, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Temitope Adegbie, told the court the defendant committed the offence on January 31, about 9:00 p.m., at Plot 1616, Festac Town.
He said the defendant stabbed the deceased, Chijioke Onwuajuegwu, with bottles and knife, which led to his death.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The offence carries death sentence for convicts. The case was adjourned until April 20 pending legal advice.
