Chidi Njokuani secures UFC contract after dominant display

Nigerian fighter Chidi Njokuani, a 32-year-old MMA veteran, has secured a contract with the UFC after technically knocking out Mario Sousa on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
Chidi, who has a 19-7 record and has fought in major organisations like Bellator and as a kickboxer, put up a dominant display to TKO Sousa in Round 3.
Coming into the fight, Chidi was one of the most experienced fighters ever to appear on the Contender Series, but he was still considered an underdog against 12-1 Sousa, a young prospect from Brazil who had already won on the contender series in the past.
The fight started even on the feet but by the end of the round, Sousa had been ducked a point for repeated strikes to the groin which took Chidi about five minutes to recover.
By the second round it was clear that Chidi had an advantage on the feet and on the ground; he chose to control the fight on the ground and in the third round, he finished the fight with brutal elbows.
Chidi now joins his brother Anthony as the only ever Nigerian/African duo in history to fight for the UFC.
