Buni promises ‘rancour-free’ APC national convention

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Convention, Mai Mala Buni, on Friday promised that the party will hold a rancour-free national convention.
In a statement by the national secretary of the CECPC, John James Akpanudoedehe, Mr Buni said “All is now set for the conduct of a rancour-free National Convention.”
Mr Buni, who is also the Governor of Yobe State, expressed the APC’s readiness “to meet up with the tasks ahead in 2022,” stating that the caretaker committee which he leads was ready to go ahead with the conduct of the national convention.
Not only that, he promised that his committee will hand over to the incoming leaders of the party a structure that will continue to install and entrench APC governments.
However, concerned party stakeholders on December 19 urged the committee to ensure the APC national convention was conducted in February 2022, warning that conducting the convention was critical to avoiding issues within the party’s ranks and files.
Some youths of the party have been at loggerheads with the committee and are demanding that the national convention be held. They have dragged the committee to court.
On November 29, they announced the sack of Mr Buni as national chairman, announcing Mustapha Audu as his replacement. This and other internal wranglings are fuelling claims that the expiration of Mr Buhari’s tenure in 2023 may end APC’s rule in Nigeria.
