Seventeen Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been killed in Damasak when they attacked a Forward Operational Base, says the Nigerian Army.

Christopher Musa, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK)’s theatre commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, disclosed this in Maiduguri.

The commander said the troops arrested three terrorists alive.

The army added that motorcycles and weapons were seized from the terrorists as the troops engaged the terrorists when they attacked a Forward Operational Base located along the Walada exit gate in the town at about 2:00 a.m. in a gunfight that lasted hours, forcing the insurgents to flee.

The commander explained that the troops, supported by the air component of OPHK, mounted a hot pursuit and closed up with the terrorists.

Damasak is in the Mobbar local government area of Borno, located near the confluence of the Yobe River and Komadugu Gana River, adjoining the border with Niger 34km from Difa in Niger and three kilometres between Damasak and the border with Niger.
