Bandits/Agriculture: El-Rufai orders schools to open only four days each week

Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s government has directed all Kaduna public schools to migrate to a four-day working week to enable workers to focus on agriculture.
The government said the development would enhance productivity, allow workers to focus on their families, and improve work-life balance.
The directive came just as schools reopened on January 10 for the second term of the 2021/2022 academic session.
The Commissioner for Education, Halima Lawal, gave the directive in Kaduna on Sunday in a notice for school resumption for the second term of the new academic session.
The commissioner further advised the school administrators to be security conscious and promptly report any security threats in their schools.
She stated that the academic calendar would be adjusted to ensure coverage of the curriculum for the academic session.
Mr El-Rufai’s government had on December 1 begun the transition to a four-day working week.
A statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, the governor’s media aide, had explained that the new measure would eventually affect the organised private sector in Kaduna.
