APC largest political party in Africa with 41 million members: Gov. Buni

Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, says the All Progressives Congress is the largest party in Africa.
The ruling APC has over 40 million registered party members, according to Mr Buni. The country’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had once prided itself as the largest political party on the continent.
“The APC conducted a very successful membership registration and revalidation exercise. We now have over 41 million registered members across the country, with full details of every member,” stated the governor on Wednesday. “APC remains Africa’s largest political party and Nigeria’s ruling party with a population that will always win elections.”
However, he admitted that the APC had not succeeded in fulfilling its promise to stem the rising tide of terrorists and bandits’ atrocities.
“Sadly, the country is facing serious security challenges because the nation’s security forces were left ill-equipped by successive administrations, while poverty and illiteracy bred a population ready for recruitment into criminal activities,” explained the Yobe governor.
Mamman Mohammed, the spokesman for Mr Buni, quoted the governor to have said while announcing that the United Kingdom has pledged to provide educational support worth £16 million to the North-East in 2022.
Mr Mohammed disclosed that the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, informed Mr Buni that the support would target over 270,000 pupils.
The high commissioner expressed satisfaction with the development strides recorded in Yobe, describing it as an impressive feat that motivated the UK government to partner with the state in education.
Ms Laing also commended the Yobe governor for his contributions to Nigeria’s political development and stability.
The high commissioner told Mr Buni that the UK was interested in a peaceful and successful general election in Nigeria come 2023.
