Amazon hires 150,000 workers for 2021 holiday sales

The world’s largest ecommerce platform Amazon has hired 150,000 workers to fill various seasonal job vacancies ahead of 2021 Christmas holiday sales.
In a report released on Tuesday, Finbold said the move by Amazon to further hire additional workers was to strengthen its workforce to meet the growing demand for online shopping with the holiday peak season fast approaching.
The organisation disclosed that Amazon’s 2021 hiring landscape was 50 per cent more than the figure recorded in 2020.
“Amazon has onboarded 150,000 seasonal employees in 2021, an addition of 50,000 or 50% growth from last year’s figure of 100,000.
“In 2019, the eCommerce platform hired 200,000 seasonal employees, the highest over the last decade,” Finbold in the report said.
Online shopping gained prominence following the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.
Finbold listed the pandemic as one of the key catalysts that influenced the growth of online shopping to indirectly influence Amazon’s seasonal hiring landscape for 2021.
The 150,000 seasonal staff were employed despite the ongoing U.S. labour market crisis that has seen millions of employees quit their jobs.
In 2018 the firm hired 100,000 employees, a slight drop from 2017’s figure of 120,000. In 2016 and 2017, Amazon maintained the same amount of seasonal employees at 100,000.
